Testing

We are in our first week of KCCT testing here at Taylor Mill Elementary. Our slogan is " Taylor Mill Tigers on the run to 101!" I know that we can achieve this goal! The students and teachers have been very focused during the school year to ensure that everyone does their very best. Good luck to all and let's get that 101!

KAGE Conference

Last week I attended the KAGE (Kentucky Association for Gifted Education) Conference in Lexington, KY. I was able to attend sessions on differentiation, creativity and challenging high leveled readers. This was such a valuable opportunity!!

Wheww....It's been a busy few months!!

I can't believe it is already Mid- October and time for Mid-terms. Things are in full swing at Taylor Mill Elementary! I have been spending time working on many different projects.
A few of the second grade classrooms have been working on On- Demand writing. We have been reviewing friendly letters, the writing process and learning about various writing tools that enhance our writing!
Soon we will be implementing a Gifted and Talented Arts & Humanities Block. This block of time will service students with high potential in the areas of music, dance, drama and art. This is a new program for Taylor Mill Elementary and I am very excited to help with its development!
This week the Project ASCENT students completed a 5 week unit on Immigration. We will be visiting the Cincinnati Museum Center as a culminating activity. The students are very excited to have this opportunity!!

Read Aloud Visits

I have been busily visiting classrooms to get to know the students and teachers at Taylor Mill Elementary. While I have shared several different stories with the classes, Miss Nelson Has a Field Day seems to be everyone's favorite. This story features Miss Viola Swamp as a very strict football coach! The students and I discussed what a coach does and what I will be doing as the year progresses. I have had many thoughtful responses such as:
  • a coach models how to do something for you
  • coaches give you tips on what to do
  • coaches tell you where to go
  • a coach cheers you on and tells you when you are doing a good job

I look forward to many more visits with the classes and teachers here at Taylor Mill Elementary!!

We Are Off and Running!

Taylor Mill Elementary has had a wonderful two days back to school. The staff, parents and students all worked together to make our first days of the 2009-2010 school year a success! I have been getting to know my way around the building and learning names. The warm welcome that I have received has been much appreciated!! I look forward to the next few weeks, as I get a chance to visit all the classrooms and see all the wonderful happenings of our school.
